About the Event

This practical one day course will give you a solid introduction on how to work with lime building materials. Find out about the properties and different uses of lime in building and why lime is such an essential material when looking after older buildings.

The day starts with classroom time: learning about the different types of lime, their uses and the best type of lime to use where. The afternoon will see you getting practical hands-on experience: making a traditional lime mix and then using it to carry out pointing repairs.

This course is aimed at home owners, or anyone who has an interest in working with traditional building materials in new build or conservation projects.

All tools and materials are included and all students will receive a comprehensive handbook.

Course day timings: 10am - 4pm

Your tutor, Ben Kerslake, has over 20 years of experience in conservation and restoration and has worked on two Grand Designs projects.

What makes our courses different

  • Our tutors are working tradespeople with over 20 years experience of working in the restoration of period properties. Their knowledge is up to date and experience is varied.
  • All of our courses, with the exception of the knowledge share sessions, are mostly practical. We believe that you can only understand how to use lime, by actually using it.
