Clay Plastering

In this 3 day practical clay plastering course, students will learn how to prepare different substrates ready for plastering and get extensive practical experience of laying on. As with all of our practical courses, they are highly hands on. Students will leave the course confident and excited to start their own projects.

The course is aimed at anyone involved in traditional or natural building. Whether you are renovating your own property, looking to build an eco build, a tradesperson looking to upskill or an architect looking to learn learn a new skill, this course is suitable for all.

Course content

• Understanding solid walled properties and natural materials
• Laying on basecoats, topcoats and skim coats
• Experiment with a range of clay plasters and learn to make your own

All tools and materials are included and all students will receive a comprehensive handbook.

Course day timings: 10am - 4pm

Your tutor, Ben Kerslake is a Master Plasterer, NVQ assessor and 2023 Mentor of the Year (FIS & Guild of Master Plaisterers Training Wards) with 25 years of experience in conservation and restoration. Having worked on the 2009 Grand Designs Eco house of the year and having built his own straw bale house, he has a wealth of experience and a passion for natural materials. In 2008 he completed his MSc in Environmental Architecture in which his thesis investigated a range of natural plasterers and how they could be used to deal with fuel poverty and create health homes.

Cancellations made 14 days or more prior  to the course date will be offered a full refund or a new course date.  Cancellations made after this date are not eligible for refund however  will be offered a new course date. We are no longer offering course date  transfers or refunds due to Covid.
