About the Event
The popularity of Hot Lime has increased in recent years which has created confusion regarding the use of NHLs and Putty. In this one day practical course, students will look at the various types of lime available and when they should be used. Â In the practical sesion, students will look at how to recognise a traditional hot lime mortar, how to make and prepare a hot lime including additional health and safety requirements and learn how to safely apply a hot lime mortar.Â
Through theory sessions, demonstrations and practical hands on opportunities, students will learn about the properties of hot lime, the benefits of its use as well as additional practicalities that need to be taken into consideration when using onsite.
Course Day: 10am until 4pm

- Understanding different types of lime and their uses
- Recognising original Hot Lime mortar
- When and why to specify its use
- Make and apply a hot lime mortar
- Understanding reasons for failure
Course suitability
The course is aimed at anyone involved with the conservation of traditional buildings. Including homeowners, tradespeople and professionals.
Course numbers are kept to maximum of 8 to ensure that everyone gets the chance to use the material and ask any questions about personal projects.
This is a practical course and students will leave feeling confident in specifying Hot Lime and have a good understand of its application.
