About the Event

In this one day practical course, students will learn how to recognise a traditional hot lime mortar, how to make and prepare a hot lime including additional health and safety requirements as well as equipment and learn how to safely apply a hot lime mortar. Through theory sessions, demonstrations and practical hands on opportunities, students will learn about the properties of hot lime, the benefits of its use as well as additional practicalities that need to be taken into consideration when using onsite.

Course Day: 10am until 4pm

  • Recognising original Hot Lime mortar
  • When and why to specify its use
  • Make and apply a hot lime mortar
  • Understanding reasons for failure

Course suitability

The course is aimed at builders already working with lime who would like to learn more about hot lime and its uses, as well as professionals working in the built heritage sector such as conservation officers and architects.

We recommend that students attend our Lime Plastering Level 1 or Introduction to Lime course before attending this course. Alternatively students are advised to have experience of using lime.

This is a practical course and students will leave feeling confident in specifying Hot Lime and have a good understand of its application.
