Hoping to link up and hear from others

Hi everyone,

I completed the Professional course in December and wondering if there's anyone here from a similar part of the country. I'm in Bedfordshire but targeting surrounding counties as well for work (Bucks, Herts, Cambs, Northamptonshire, possibly down to London).

Also just interested to hear from others from the heritage labourer's course and previous years' professional courses about how it's going, any tips, and if there are any jobs you might want to link up on. Happy to travel :)

Cheers

Jamie

Looking for work, East Midlands

Hello all,

I am based in Boston, Lincolnshire looking for opportunities to work with lime and help out onsite. I recently completed the Heritage Labourer course at Carrington Lime so have a good understanding of Lime and its many uses as well as the practical skills neccesary to help out with mixing, old plaster/render removal, plastering, rendering and pointing on hertitage properties.

Would be great to hear from anyone looking for help or who know of any contacts I can make in my area. Happy to travel too, if there is anything further afield.

Thanks for reading,

Sim

Newbie to the Heritage World

Hello!

I am based out of Manchester and looking to connect with anyone for work and experience opportunities :)

I started my journey in the heritage world late 2024 working on replacing a slate roof. Over the last year I have been involved in projects with plain tile roofing, stripping back properties ready for works, pointing and lots of general labouring! Keeping a well run organised work ground is my speciality. I've just finished my Heritage labourers course with Ben & Kate, learning so much and making some great contacts :)

I'd love to get some further experience in plastering, but ultimately I'm keen to get into work soon and continue gaining skills.

Grateful for any suggestions in my area!

Thanks everyone :)

Post your jobs

Afternoon all,

If you are currently working on a project that you could benefit from help with, do post details here. Our professional students will be finishing their training with us in just two weeks, and we have 8 new heritage labourers starting with us in January - all of whom will be looking for work experience opportunities.

Not only could you get an extra pair of skills hands on your project, but you would be helping the next generation of heritage specialists on your career journey.

Job for professional S Wales

Not what I expected to share as first post - but glad to be able.

Sharing on behalf of someone to help find real lime plasterer for 4 large rooms already stripped out in large Victorian property. I would LOVE to help out on this one as it’s exactly the people and reason I got involved. Do you know who to recommend or suggest?

(I WILL post soon about my recent experiences, own offers and availability I promise)

I'm happy to come and help as a labourer/lackey if someone else can provide the professional part of the request, depending on dates.

Hi,

Is anyone looking for experience rendering over the next few weeks?

We're based near Coleford in the Forest of Dean.

We're using a perlite base coat and gauged top coat.

I have rendered one wall previously, but I could use some help getting this one pushed through.

Thanks,

Seeking experience

In September last year I bought a limestone cottage in Youlgreave, near Bakewell and I wil l be attending the introduction to lime plastering course part 1 and 2 at Carrington lime in September and October this year.

I am looking to immerse myself in this line of work and acquire some site experience and professional insight ahead of my training. I'm aiming to build a career as a lime plasterer and historic building repair and i'm hopeful that this kind of thing could strengthen my portfolio which I could include in an application for the four month heritage plastering course next year if it is to run.

Please let me know if you live locally and could take me on for a few days or more, or I am happy to travel if you are further afield. I'm keen to help with anything and eager to get the ball…

Hello, Matthew, I'm in New Mills and in a very similar position. Just bought a cottage (1860) and trying to remember what happened in Part 1 to prep for limestone plastering. I would also like to get some experience in the interim, before part 2 of the course which I'm on in October. So would be happy to help out. Please DM or my email is joanneolivia1@gmail.com

Hello, we would love some help with plastering the kitchen and dining room in our early 1900s terraced house in Cardiff. The house had significant damp issues and all the concrete render, tanking and gypsum plaster has been hacked off. The kitchen is a small room but we are a little overwhelmed with the numerous problems to solve in order to plaster successfully (e.g. missing bricks from a chimney removed in the past, holes through to the outside, very damaged and uneven brickwork, mix of wooden and concrete lintels, pipework to navigate etc). We're also trying to get the work complete before we get married on 16 August! So if you fancy helping us with a small but challenging job we would love to hear from you! Thanks 😊

Hi Verity

That’s an incredibly tight deadline - I’m not experienced but I’m an extra pair of hands with similar problems tasks yet to list, along the road in Newport. I’m actually just newly booked up until mid August now - now sure on my return but wanted to let you know I’m local, looking for hands on helping/help and may be available the other side of that deadline
